Bedding House - Van Gogh Garden Cushion
This is one of 35 floral still life paintings, painted by Van Gogh in Paris in the summer of 1886. He hoped that paintings with this subject would sell well. He also experimented with the use of colour and practised a freer painting method.
He used bold colour contrasts in complementary colours for this still life, juxtaposing green Decorative cushion Garden is based upon the painting ''The Garden of the Asylum'', which shows the garden of the institution in Saint-Rémy where Van Gogh was a patient for a year. When his illness prevented him from leaving the grounds Van Gogh threw himself into painting and he discovered that he could express a feeling with colours.
He strengthened the emotional charge of his works by using colour to create harmony or contrast.Cushion Garden has a digital print with a flat piping in ochre. The back is solid ochre.
The cushion is made of 100% cotton. The size is 30x90 cm. The cushion cannot be washed in the washing machine and is not suitable for tumble drying.
